Sometimes I find webpages that are no longer available. However, Google's cache reveals some interesting text but I can't view the whole cache together, as there is no "View Cache" link anymore (as of the last few months or so), and the only way to get that data is reminescent of finding an Amazon Covering Set, but easier: just keep googling for text further down the cache.

Example: the first hit here

Btw, who writes the website blurbs in Google's results page?

Blurbs on search results come from website meta tags... specifically, the meta "description" tag is used.
If there isn't one, I believe Google grabs the first bit of text from the page.

Google still has 'View cache', but only for URL's with Page Rank. See for example this search result, it has the ranked listings in cache:

http://www.google.nl/search?q=herdenkingsdag&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-GB:official&client=firefox-a

hm, I thought every URL had a PageRank. And this seems like an arbitrary thing to do. Is Google doing this so people can audit PageRank??

Isn't there another trick to viewing the cache for pages that don't have PageRank?
