why can't I access Google's cache directly?

Sometimes I find webpages that are no longer available. However, Google's cache reveals some interesting text but I can't view the whole cache together, as there is no "View Cache" link anymore (as of the last few months or so), and the only way to get that data is reminescent of finding an Amazon Covering Set, but easier: just keep googling for text further down the cache.
