I just found out that a colleague of mine, with whom I used to play football (soccer) at Bucknell already has 4 kids! And I think he's not even 30 yet.
--------
About 2 or 3 weeks ago, the weather was actually good. I went to the BimHuis, saw the end of an excellent Latin Jazz concert.
The next day, I went to Vondelpark, ran into 2 Israeli drummers and played their hang (swiss drum). I got their email, and suggested they jam with the contact dancers on Sundays.
Afterwards, I ran into Anne and Kasper, who were organizing a trampoline event (for some reason this is called "turnen" in NL). I jumped 10 or 20 times in total, and got enough courage to perform shy somersaults towards the end. Leigh, the fire-juggler I'd met the weekend before, ran into us and joined in for a jump or two. I even met some *friendly* Dutch people. Blimey!
I sort of promised myself that I need to write a book about learning languages. Given the impression that I make, I could probably sell tons of copies. If I sold a copy for every compliment that I get... it might well pay my rent. (plus it would give me something else to say, other than the annoying "thank you")
