working out
Feb. 2nd, 2005 10:00 pmI'm currently feeling the afterglow of 1.5 hour of working out with Henrik.
I have(had) a negative image of gyms in my head: boring people performing repetitive movements to crap music, but in fact it seems like the most practical way to get a work out. After this first experience, it actually seems ok.
I feel more disposed to do stuff, despite the pain behind my knees. So it seems that working out also has a short-term effect.
The machines kinda suck, though. Poor user interface, and don't explore the huge potential for video games... if they gave me highly-structured goals (with subgoals, etc.) with immediate feedback and perhaps a nice story with avatars (i.e. the principles of addictive video games), people like me would be motivated to work out. But in principle, a chasing game would be enough.
Anyway, I managed to motivate myself enough.
On the way back, I heard singing coming from De Portugees. They have these events where the whole restaurant sings folk songs. It's very lively and nice, though a bit crowded and I don't know anyone.

Date: 2005-02-03 11:31 am (UTC)http://www.getupmove.com/ is dedicated to those who use DDR as a work out .
http://www.sportwall.com/ apparently sells smart walls, which still seems to be far from approaching the interestingness of a real sport.
What I'd like to play is a game like GTA using DDR-like controls. I'd like to play this kind of thing in the gym, where the neighbours couldn't complain... and maybe I could even socialize or compete with people.
