No update from them.

Plan: if my passport is not in the mail by the end of tomorrow (Wednesday), call Expedia to cancel the flight. Only book again once I have it in hands.

The first person I talked to on Expedia told me no changes were allowed, period. i.e., I'd lose everything if I don't have my passport by Friday morning.

The second person I talked to on Expedia told me I can cancel 24h before the flight to get $1250 credit with Lufthansa (I'd pay fees of $300 + $30 upon using this credit), which can be used to buy from Expedia again (or directly through Lufthansa). But when I asked him to send me this information in writing, he hung up on me. (although the website seems to agree)

Next step: email support.

hello,

It looks like I might not have my passport with me by this Friday.

I just spoke to someone at 1-800-EXPEDIA, and I was told that:

* I can cancel my flight 24h before the departure, to get $1246 credit with Lufthansa (good for 1 year; I would pay $300+$30 in fees to use it).

* this credit would be attached to a reference number

Can I use this credit if I book with Expedia? Is there a place for this reference number when booking in the Expedia website?

Regards,

Gustavo

Single most useful tip I've heard when dealing with any sort of air travel customer service:

If someone ever acts unhelpful, says something funny, etc., just quickly end the conversation and call again. I don't usually believe anything is impossible unless I've heard it from 2 or preferably 3 representatives.

Gustavo, could you explain who had your passport and why? And which country issued the passport?

Canadian Consulate had my Brazilian passport, in order to issue me a student visa.
