WikiTeX's music language is LilyPond, which looks very much like the RightThing. ... and I don't care much for sheet-music.

There is also a conversion program called abc2ly.

AFAICT, it's got everything become the open standard.

Lilypond creates gorgeous output, but the file format itself is quite baroque. I'm more enthusiastic about MusicXML (http://www.recordare.com/xml.html). The Lilypond program can handle it.

All I really care about is inputting an easy, ABC-like format, and getting out a MIDI.
