I have accepted an offer to work as Research Programmer for the SimStudent project at CMU's Human-Computer Interaction Institute (HCII). I will be in the middle of the Intelligent Tutoring Systems group, working in something related to cognitive modeling. I am quite excited to be going to such an interesting place, and to work in an area that I feel so strongly about.
There are still several things I need to get sorted out.
First of all, what are the good areas to live? I am considering getting a place for just July & August, in order to let me find something else beginning September.
Craigslist tells me rent is pretty cheap. But I might still like to have 1 housemate, especially if it's someone interesting, and easy to get along with (the latter presupposes non-smoking, reasonably quiet, etc), and ideally someone I can be friends with.
