Goddamn Windows again!
Jul. 21st, 2003 03:14 amThe system on my laptop just froze up, probably due to a memory leak. I can still move my mouse.
I had important documents open that I didn't save. Notepad windows, particularly, tend to freeze up in response to a File->Save.
Any tips for recovering them? Are there programs to access memory, and save my data for me?
I may try using Freedom Linux very soon.

I use emacs as my text editor - has auto save and
lots of features.

But why it needed hours to figure this out is beyond me.

your mind every time you try to save.
I think what you can do is mark everything in the
notepad, copy and then save. If it freeze up, you
can alway paste it somewhere else.
I am suspecting there is something wrong with your
hardd rive. Sometime errors in hard drive or
IDE controller can freeze things up.
Linux is definitely a solution. The only problem
is printing. Setting up a printer in Linux is
not easy. Most vendors don't even have a driver.
Perhaps in a few years this will change.
