memories

Lately, I've been paying attention to how my memory works. Essentially, I'm trying to manage the inevitable process of forgetting.

As much as possible, I try to use my digital camera, my credit card, and write to this blog, so that it's possible to piece my memories together should the need (or curiosity) arise. I almost certainly do it too much. It is a quirk of mine to live by "All information is holy! Information must not be lost!", and I only know of one other person who shares this quirk. It's quite an inconvenient quirk to have when your HD is full (as is the case now).

Being a recent transplant here, I've obviously have formed lots of new memories that will stay with me for a while, and I've also done lots of forgetting (though harder to verify).

Why write this now?
Because apparently, Noam and I chatted in 2004, completely forgot about each other, met each other again in 2006, and since then we never suspected that we'd spoken to each other before. I only found this out thanks to LJ.
(and no, no memories were recalled: it's as if 2004-me was a different person telling me that they met Noam)

Why does Matlab insist on every function having its own file? Octave lets you define functions inside scripts, or in the shell. Therefore, my Octave code simply does not work in Matlab, due to this prissiness. I'm tempted to write an Octave->Matlab converter.

I just wish Octave caught up faster.

(this is an imperfect translation: "frescura" is much more common in my Portuguese than "prissiness" in my English, so the translation sounds a little odd. Here's an odd translation: "What prissiness, my brother! Eat soon the thing. You won't die.")
