Going North-South seems to be easy in Manhattan: just take the subway! But how do people travel East-West?

I'd like to see a density plot of pedestrian direction, plotted on a circle. (Optionally: do the same for driving, cabbing, busing, cycling, subway-riding). I think I know somebody who could produce this very easily.

You can take a crosstown bus
If it's raining or it's cold
And the animals will love it if you do...

Great graphic! Thanks. I wish it came with some meta-data.
I like the busway idea; apparently it originally came from Curitiba, Brazil.

The figure of ~1500 private vehicle + ~4000 bus riders + ~8000 pedestrians sounds plausible (and big enough for small city!), but I wonder how they are counting people who are indoors, in buildings that have entrances from multiple streets, etc.

P.S. how did you find my journal, Mr. DamnitJim?

I took the L on Wed, but the wait was ~15 minutes at ~11pm.

I am Alan & saw it on your Facebook.

I haven't really used LiveJournal since high school and that avatar is a high-school in-joke.
