brainwashing
Jun. 18th, 2005 01:10 pmCan people be domesticated? You bet!
Tranquility Bay is a school in Jamaica where American parents send their disobedient kids. The students are made to submit to a new belief system, and they coerce pupils into talking about their personal feelings. It's hard to fake such emotions, and the incentive is clearly to accept the new beliefs. It's no accident the school is located in Jamaica: elsewhere, such human rights violations would not be tolerated. I have no idea how long my mind could resist such torture.
Whereas the effects of brainwashing seem to non-permanent in adults, I don't know what this does to children.
But this is only the most extreme and explicit form of brainwashing. Parents, religion, peers do it all the time. And I think most people are not that hard-headed.
I'm curious about how hypnosis works. I tend think of myself as difficult to hypnotize.
