My machine is starting the screensaver after 1 minute, which is very annoying, especially if I'm reading or watching something. Also, several times now the screensaver started within 1 or 2 seconds of me touching the computer (not enough time to prevent it from starting)

The Power Properties says that the screensaver will start after 15 minutes. The registry entry says 600 seconds (i.e. 10 minutes). And the reality is 1 minute.

---

UPDATE: I fixed this at "Display Properties > Screen Saver", obtained by right-clicking on the Desktop.

why not stop using computers altogether? :-p

Now seriously, I like Linux in a lot of ways, but I haven't been able to get basic things to work, like external monitors, tablet pen, accents, etc.

Obligatory Mac plug, ignore if you've heard it all before:

Macs have all the advantages of Linux (except freedom) and none of the downsides (except some software is Windows-only, although that's becoming less and less of a problem, and I've got Windows installed on a partition for those rare cases where I need it).

The screensaver works as expected. There's only one place to configure it.

External monitors and tablets work as expected. I'm using them right now.

Accents involve holding the alt-key and then pressing a letter, which I understand is different from how Windows does it but you get used to it. I can type all these with default settings: é ü î æ ç å ñ.

Anything in a terminal shell works better on Mac than Windows, and it usually works as well as it does on Linux. Lots of common terminal software comes preinstalled with the OS, or with Apple's developer tools which you can download for free.

Proselytizing in blogs may win you a few converts, but the most effective way to gain followers is through the performance of good deeds.

But I don't want followers. I want friends!

Also I have nothing against Bill Gates. In fact I think I share his opinion of Windows.

Actually I've got Windows 7 and I haven't had any trouble with it yet aside from the obnoxious software update feature. But then again, I haven't needed to use it much yet. *shrug*

Listen to [livejournal.com profile] shaktool. Seriously, someday you're going to feel mighty silly for all the time you waited before getting a Mac.

Wikipedia informs me that the Portuguese alphabet contains the following accented letters: á, â, ã, à, ç, é, ê, í, í, ó, ô, õ, ú (and ü in the past in Brazil). I typed them all on my keyboard just now.

<< ü in the past in Brazil >>

The past?? They only recently approved the spelling reform! I can use it until 2013!

I was going by this article in English:

"The trema on Ü was used in Brazilian Portuguese up to December 31, 2008. With the 1990 Portuguese Language Orthographic Agreement going into effect in Brazil on January 1, 2009, the diaeresis may only appear in borrowed words, in personal names, and in words derived from them."

You should edit it if it's wrong. Anyway, you'll be able to generate ü on a Mac keyboard both before and after 2013.

I wasn't trolling, I was actually saying that kind of inconsistency in the system (and not just in one place) is the reason I switched to Mac.

Screw Linux, I've never seen it work 100% reliably with external monitors, tablets, etc.
