Having a TV this week is putting me more in touch with ordinary folks, for whose sake science maxims are subverted, e.g. "The NuWave Oven uses all 3 forms of heat transmission: conduction, convection and infrared!!". Everyone knows that "radiation" is bad for you...

As you may know, MRI used to be called NMRI, but medicine and "nuclear" don't go together.

I suspect 80% of people think nuclear power plants can spontaneously explode and kill everyone in a 1000 mile radius.

Sometimes I forget just how big the gap is. It's scary out there. I'm serious - it concerns me greatly the extent to which everyday folks don't understand really basic everyday basic 'stuff'. I have to limit exposure just to maintain sanity :) Meditation is your friend.

Never understood the dropping of the N, it's not like most folks know what the other three letters stand for so what does it matter? If you won't get int the scanner because it 'nuclear' the fine, that's your choice.

oh, and it's pronounced nu-kew-ler :)

Strangely enough, lots of research hospitals have a "nuclear medicine" department. It might be getting better. I still agree on the "maintaining sanity" point though.
