"Berlin Playground" was good. It felt like a documentary, though it's probably fictitious. [livejournal.com profile] cow and the people I invited at swing dancing decided to come, and brought some more, for a total of 8 people.

The main character had a strong Berlin dialect e.g. saying "ik" for "Ich", "kucken" for "look". A Berlinische girl in our group (who is too young to label herself "West" or "East"!) confirmed my impression.

The original title, "Hans Im Glück", is the name of a folk story.

I'm planning to go see "North" tomorrow. Maybe also "Road Work Ahead", which is a collection of shorts. This counts as a movie binge for me, since I'm a lightweight. Anyone joining me?

It's at least somewhat real--the bands were real, and he's in them. (I found a Myspace video of a concert, and it's the same people.) A Wikipedia page talks about the importance and popularity of one of their songs... That was really crazy to see, because I too left thinking it was mostly fictitious.

Interesting that she doesn't label herself East or West. In my (very brief) experience, the two halves of the city are very different. I'm surprised they don't retain some sort of local pride.

I guess they probably do as much as your average big city... but I imagine that young Berliners of today don't identify with the Ossie/Wessie identities.

Hans Narva was the bass player for "Herbst in Peking", known alternatively as "Hans Tomato" and "Torsten Müller-Fornah". Surprisingly, there's no Wikipedia article about him. I expect this to change soon.

No article about him, but there is one about Herbst in Peking, the early band. (The Myspace video I found was of the Crack-up Collective, which was the band with the guy he described as 'snothead, snothead'.)

It's hard to believe that he would open up his life problems (e.g. stuff about his mother and father) so publicly.
