for future reference:

Symptoms (Input): 4-5 days of fever (unmeasured), shitty feeling. Tiredness, shortness of breath. Middle of february.

Diagnosis: I have the flu.

What to do (Output):
Since it's caused by a virus, we can do nothing about it.
We can, however, relieve some symptoms: Paracetamol for fever, shitty feeling.
Avoid hot drinks, as they can promote throat infections.

These telephone consultations aren't so bad. They're cheaper and more practical than live ones.

Their English seems subpar though... on a more high-power day, I would speak Dutch with them, but even then there are too many body-related words that are different from English and Portuguese.
And also, they seem to be in a hurry (which is kind of unusual for this country)...

Sample size: 2.

Probably most usage of money is better spent than on Dutch doctors. However the hospital emergency rooms are quite good if you have a problem that can be fixed.

whoa, that's weird... I've always try to drink a lot of hot drinks when my throat hurts to help soothe it. It makes it worse?? No wonder my sore throats last forever!

I have the same tendency.

But I guess it's like treating a skin burn with toothpaste: soothing, but a bad idea.

it is the 'superstition' around these parts that you should ALWAYS drink hot drinks (especially tea) when your throat is ailing ya. i'va always wondered. is your info accurate? (or can you tell?)

ps, toothpaste is great for fixing cracks in cds.

if you need another placebo, I recommend a kind of honey+cinnamon spray that stings your throat, and all the more so when it's sore.

you could also attempt the russian cure: a glass of vodka with a good bit of black pepper.

I used to have paracetamol all the time in the UK.

Then I moved to America, and I asked the pharmacist for it, and she almost screamed at me.

Apparently paracetamol isn't legal in the US.

Go figure.

AFAIK, in America, it's called Tylenol.
