According to our analysis, you are a Aquarius, Jan 20 to Feb 18. But you are certainly not a Cancer, June 22 to July 22.
You claim to be a Aquarius, and, as expected, the miraculous powers of astrology have proven themselves. You can click on the link on the bottom of the web page to see how this divination was made.

Even though the site claims to be correct 26% of the time (sample of 187), which I guess is very statistically significant, let me proclaim that I am still a skeptic. The result didn't surprise me because my astrological profile happens to be pretty accurate. I even studied an astrology book when I was still a believer.
There have been studies about this sort of thing before confirming my skepticism, but you never really know.

I think it's something where you need to be careful about which aspects you are skeptical about. For example I've heard that the time of the year that you are born in can affect the development of your immune system due to the different concentrations of pollens etc. at different times of the year. (I haven't researched this so I can't state it for a fact but it certainly sounds plausible) In which case your star sign could be related to aspects of your health, in particular things like allergies.

if it's something to do with the seasons, then us southern-hemispherers should get opposite results, right?

I suppose it would have to be.

Also, it would depend on the region. Some places have a lot of pollen while others have very little, pollen types vary, local weather patterns, pollution patterns etc...

One of my very early philosophical insights:

Any two things t1, t2 in the world could be related, but most are not.

OR similarly...

all pairs of things ARE related, but not necessarily to a significant extent.

A plausible mechanism suggests a significant relationship.

The problem here is that everyone grows up hearing about the "properties" of people with their sign. So if all your life you read "Geminis are kind, generous, but fierly protective of their friends" (completely made that up!), then it's probably going to skew which properties you see in yourself, *especially* when filling out a survey directly related to astrological signs.

So your skepticism is highly justified.

I don't believe in astrology for a minute, but this is pretty weird that they got both of ours right. I think I might go back and try it again, selecting a random birthdate just to make sure he's not cheating by using the one you enter in.

It thought I was a Gemini, and thought that Scorpio was my 3rd least likely (even though my first 6 signs are all in Scorpio). Just goes to show ya. :)

Well, I guess that means I don't have to go back and make sure its possible to get a mismatch. Just based on this small sampling, it's disturbing how accurate it was overall! But I'm not going to start checking my daily horoscope any time soon.

One interesting use for this--even assuming that the success of this site was merely anecdotal--is that people could take it and find out what their "real" horoscope is (based on their personality), and then maybe checking their horoscope would actually be of some use. Since presumably, the advice is based on someone with those personality traits.

It said I was most likely a Gemini and least likely a Cancer - however I am in fact a Cancer. You can try to point out that I was born on the 24th, only two days after the Gemini/Cancer cusp, but that'll just be going the route of nonfalsifiability.

is the sample self selected?
that could bias things too...
