Firefox slow
Aug. 27th, 2009 07:33 pmMy Firefox has been incredibly slow lately. When I type in textboxes, I can see the characters appearing, one by one... sometimes for a whole minute afterwards. After this, the biggest annoyance is the delayed scrolling. Finally, on YouTube, the videos always make multiple pauses in the middle, even when they're fully loaded. I upgraded to Firefox 3.5 hoping it might help, it didn't.
I've tried starting it with 'firefox -P' and created a new profile, hoping it would give me a clean slate. That disabled my plug-ins (WebMynd, NextTab).
I've also tried the trick of renaming the places.sql, as a radical way to clear the history.
None of these worked.
Disabling *all* add-ons, Firefox works normally again (even YouTube works without a hitch). Now, I'm going to figure out which ones I can add back.
---
I've been observing the memory usage. Firefox uses roughly 60MB per open tab. It uses >100MB memory even when only a single GMail tab is open. With just the "Firefox start" page, it takes up 58MB.
