Since when is Facebook the standard way of emailing someone?

I got a job offer in a Facebook message once.

Heh, I got one of those yesterday.

To be fair, it was from Facebook, Inc...

*sigh*

Didn't you know that only old people use e-mail? Open standards and not giving up control of your personal data to some corporate server are so 1990s.

There have been a few occasions for me when that's been useful, since I don't know which e-mail address is current, but I"m sure the person uses Facebook. It really bothered me the first couple times people did it to me. But I recently got a conference invitation through Facebook, so who knows.

Yes, that is one of the reasons why I have emailed people through FB.

I hate FB (I only keep my account because I would miss out on invitations and keeping in touch with people if I deleted my account), yet I have developed the bad habit of emailing people through FB when I can just as easily email people by proper email. I think part of the reason I do this is because people are more likely to ignore or not see your email if it's not via FB. Although, I do feel silly emailing my sister via FB! But she does it as well.

That's strange - I'm more likely to ignore a facebook message than a real e-mail, but I shouldn't guess that I'm standard in any way.

Also, my email address is not my name, so people who I do not email frequently may not realize it's me.

It's been normal for a couple of years. I use facebook and regular email. Lots of times I want to contact someone whose email I don't have, and I'm facebook friends with them. Also when you facebook message someone, it usually sends them an email to let them know.

If someone messages me on Twitter, chances are I'll never get it.

In an ideal world, sending a Facebook message would put your email address in the reply-to (or at least offer this option), so that they can reply to you directly. But this is not in Facebook's interests.
