yeah, I'd think a close Venus would loom larger than Jupiter.

Also, more blue, rather than brown/orange. But I suspect that brown/orange and blue look very similar when they are bright enough.

I have clear memories of trying to spot Mercury while my dad was driving. Rather more dangerous, I expect...

Something that can be seen in sunlight can almost certainly be seen even in light-blighted cities like mine, so I'll have to check.

Venus can be seen every night in Los Angeles right now, so I'm sure it's visible wherever you are, unless you're in certain parts of Hong Kong or Tokyo or Times Square or something.
