The Thunderbird 1BR offered to me (F-type) is quite nice:

Pluses:
* practically next-door to the CS building
* free gym facilities (weirdly, no treadmill FTL), games room (at least ping-pong FTW)
* I can leave with 30-days notice
* very roomy, bedroom separate from living room

Minuses:
* almost $900/month
* not as much community as in a res college
* unfurnished
* I could only move in on Jan 13.
* only wired Internet (I'd have to manage my own router, or talk to my neighbors)
* groceries are far away (as with any on-campus housing)

It's smaller than my Munich apartment, but much newer and better maintained.
