Remote-controlled curtains that stick to the glass in windows. Is it such a weird idea?

I was woken up today (for the gazillionth time) by workers at 8am. This time they were trimming the bushes. It seems everybody is too lazy to get up and complain at such an early hour, and even then I have no idea who I can complain to. In fact I can't even reach the garden myself, even though it looks public.

They could at the very least *warn* me a few days in advance.

why stick to the glass?

they do make X10 powered curtains, kinda pricey.

I use magnetic seals (most window frames are steel, and thus magnetic, like a 'light-lock' (airlock). I just used some high powered magnets inside the place the curtain bar normally is inserted. and it comes with a magnetic strip down the center for where the two halves meet.

I'm very interested in your solution.

Where do you get the super-magnets?

where is your "curtain bar" normally inserted?

and it comes with a magnetic strip down the center for where the two halves meet.
what's it?
and the halves of what?

I actually got the magnets from a surplus electronics store. THey are FUN. They have enough strenght if your not paying attention to cause bloodblisters if you get skin caught between them.

Look online/sciene supply, ebay for some combination of these terms: rare earth Neodymium-Iron-Boron (NdFeB) 'super' magnets

like here

Ideallly I'd sew the magnets into a strip and insert it the same place that the curtain rod gets inserted (up at the top, where it's normally hung away from the wall). e.g.
------------------------------------...
[magnet]|----fabric------[magnet]---...
------------------------------------...

the actual curtain is "Blackout" drapery lining made by roclon. It's fairly common material (most housewares shopping that offer curtains or drapes will offer some version of it. It works really well when it's the right size and the seal against the window is good. there are two halves to the curtain and they meet in the center. To seal the light here they have a very week magnetic strip that is strong enough to keep them together.

Wow, 8 a.m. is considered early there? Maybe I should move. I have a neighbor who uses a chainsaw (not really, but it sounds like it) every morning at 7 o'clock. He's crazy about his garden. It makes me so angry, but I would feel silly complaining, since I'm the only one in the neighborhood who's still trying to sleep at that hour.

we should make ourselves heard! There is nothing wrong with being a late riser. Threaten him with late-night noise!
