I'm quite fine with sticking to a narrow field of research -- it's what I'm good at. If I want a job, though, I need to get broader. (I also need to go broader for my candidacy exams...only to go narrow, yet again, for my dissertation.) It seems so much easier to go micro than it does go macro.
