housing search frustration
Aug. 21st, 2008 03:29 amI've been responding to lots of Craigslist ads, and the callback rate seems to be <10%. And in the few places that I visited, the housemates I met were not my people. This whole process is very frustrating.
I wonder if my personal profile has unintended connotations... or if it simply reflects the reality that (1) people tend to like those similar to themselves, and (2) I am quite a unique individual.
In Munich, I once went to a WG-Party, a nice solution to this problem. It's like speed-dating for housemates: it reverses the traditional order of the process. A WG-Party is a meetup in which housing-seekers meet their potential roommates, and if that goes well, one can exchange contact info to look at the apartments later. I've proposed to have a similar thing at UBC.
