Method: count the people on my cellphone for general social purposes (i.e. not counting a visiting roomseekers, professional contacts, ex-housemates, etc.)
Results:
NL: 14 men, 6 women
DE: 1 man, 3 women
BR: 2 men, 1 woman
US: 3 men, 0 women
UK: 1 man, 1 woman
CA: 1 man, 1 woman
FR: 1 man, 1 woman
NO: 2 men, 0 woman
+ 1 GR man, 1 MX man, 1 PT woman, 1 DK man, 1 NZ man
TOTAL = 43 social contacts.. whew, and yet sometimes I feel like I don't know anyone!
Noteworthy patterns: I know more Germans than Brazilians! This is probably (at least partly) due to the fact that their concentration here is higher than that of Brazilians.
The assumption is that people on my cell phone are representative of people I know.
