The ideal candidate:

* mathematically sophisticated and knows more logic than me, in particular recursion theory (proof theory may be a plus)
* understands Kolmogorov Complexity; Chaitin's proofs
* interested in mathematical epistemology

e.g. someone like Jason Reed, Kenny Easwaran, Peter Gerdes, and maybe my housemate.

I have a nice paper idea, but since I'm not into logic anymore, I'd like to delegate it. The idea got me hooked, so I need to unhook myself.

Maybe after the 21st, when the LFMTP deadline is past...

He may be too busy, but I highly recommend one of my favorite professors/advisors at Smith: Joe O'Rourke. We in fact even spent some time in one of our special studies talking about Kolmogorov complexity. And he's of course very mathematically savvy and finds recusion and just a ton of broader complex-system related areas interesting. He's lately I think been focusing a lot of protein folding, but who knows. He's so diverse.

i may not have time to work on such a thing til summer, but i'm curious what the idea is.

I don't really know very much recursion theory, though I do know the basics of Kolmogorov complexity and Chaitin's stuff. (Also, Don Fallis, who I was citing a lot in my talk on Thursday, has a very good paper showing why some of Chaitin's arguments that he's given a better explanation of the incompleteness phenomenon are just misguided.)

Anyway, I really ought to finish my dissertation in the next month or two!
