SiteGround doesn't give me SSH access, which means I can't debug my MediaWiki problems. Since I have a 1-year contract, I'm hoping I can sublet it. I'd sell it for $40 for the next 11 months (I paid $84 for 12 months).
dachte suggests I rent out a Virtual Private Server (VPS), which means we would have complete freedom and wouldn't depend on other people for root access. Problem is it costs $20/month and up.
So I want to room with someone(s). I'm not picky, but it's a plus if you're more Unix-savvy than I am (most CMU CS majors and cluster nerds satisfy this criterion).

Date: 2008-03-17 08:58 pm (UTC)Still, it seems it shouldn't cost more than, say, $40/month. Here are the costs of satisfying our needs:
* replace the machine every 5 years
* reasonably fast internet connection
* daily backup (double the disk requirements)
* electricity bills
$40/month = $480/year, which should be enough.
Is anyone looking to go into business?
