The quiz

I forget exactly what the questions were, but anyway:

* I was born in Brazil, and this is my passport. As far as "identity" goes, I don't define myself. Brazilians are constantly amused by my unusual character for a Brazilian. But then again, Wes says I'm from Mars.

* On average, Brazilians are warm, welcoming, statist bastards and awesome people at the same time.

* I have one brother and one sister, 13 and 21 respectively. My mom has 12 siblings.

* The most "fucked up" place I've ever been was a clothes-free village in Malanje, Angola. It wasn't filthy like the slums of Recife, but apparently they had to work a lot harder to survive, and died earlier than the poor of Brazil.

* I grew up speaking Portuguese. My second language was BASIC at around age 7 to a tape-playing MSX machine (Commodore equivalent) whose OS was basically a BASIC shell. Compared to English, BASIC was a piece of cake. I learned French in college (for real), and I do not speak Spanish although I can fake it due to its proximity to Portuguese. Pascal is Spanish to me.

* What do I think of Linux? This is a trick question. Basically, I believe that a decent OS is yet to emerge, and its name will be TUNES. Maybe it could be adapted from Linux, but it implements a lot more design principles, the most important being reflection. Their motto should be "Open Source isn't enough".

* My closest friends have been people who either: I identify with intellectually, or inspire me to think in different and interesting ways. Sense of humour counts here. I don't know what the hell it means to "identify emotionally", and I wish I was good enough a musician to "identify musically" with anybody. Still, it probably wouldn't form close friendships.

* Am I going to get a PhD? Only if there is no better option. I do not want to do submit myself to that system again... I hate classes and homework and I hate grading. However, if I can get away with skipping these things, then I would gladly do it. I only consider it, of course, because at the moment, it seems impossible to find interesting work without a PhD. I am looking into all sorts of unusual ways to make a living from my theories. For now, I'll go on being a profitable waste of a mind.

What did I not cover?

Congratulations to [livejournal.com profile] joelgrus, who got the highest score after knowing me only online, and for about 3 days. Tell us, Joel, what's your trick?
