Would you buy things online (through eBay, Amazon, etc.) from a third-party seller who just launched, and therefore has no feedback, positive or negative? How much more of a risk is it?

Through amazon, sure -- they guarantee everything, so the risk is minimal -- just some hassle. Through ebay, the risk is considerably more. There are some guarantees for sellers with verified paypal accounts through paypal, and also ebay offers free non-receipt insurance up to $200 I believe, with a $25 deductible, but this is much harder to deal with than amazon's process, and the fraud rate tends to be much higher on ebay.

Thank you. I have purchased and received my books, very cheaply through Amazon.

I think it would depend on what was being sold and the price. I'd be nervous to buy something expensive. I'd also look for clues that the person is legit. If the person is selling something specific and includes the condition, a clear shipping policy, etc. Also, I'm more likely to do this for something obscure. It's harder to find an alternative, and it's harder to fake selling something obscure.
