I am in Nice. After spending 5 days in Firenze, two days in Levanto (Cinque Terre), one night in Monaco and one night in Nice, I have connected my laptop to the Internet.

I am sort of headed towards Portugal, thinking about stopping at Cap D'Agde (the nude city), and crossing Spain through either Barcelona / Madrid or the northern path through the Basque country and Galicia. The idea, of course, is that I will go to Barcelona anyway.

I am kinda frustrated by the shallowness of all connections I make. This whole trip, there was one person who I saw for more than 4 days. I am also bothered by the touristyness of places like Firenze. It's the same dumb shit: people arrive, take pictures and leave. I simply cannot see the value there.

Ok, now I need to figure out if I am staying here of heading west. I guess I have the whole day. I'm reading Pinker's How The Mind Works, and I'm loving it.

Pinker...good stuff.

Why don't you visit less touristy areas if you don't like tourists?

Also, it's hard to make real connections with people when you are traveling...you can't expect someone to stay by your side when they have their own trip to pursue.

I am avoiding them now.... I didnt understand that tourist)aversion before... Pardon the typos, this is a French keyboard.

Yet, hostels can be such crazy places that it ends up being easy to become friendly with people. I guess I just dunno.
