Date: 2006-07-05 11:26 pm (UTC)The subject you want to read up on is Interwiki...that pretty much spells out how to do it, you have to edit a mapping table. There's no standardized set of prefixes and domains used across wikis yet.

That functionality may not be available in MediaWiki, I believe wikinfo does what it does through some hacks. You could probably do your own hack rather simply but you'd start having problems like not being able to have any meaningful red links. (A red link would mean "not defined in my wiki but MAYBE it's in wikipedia, click to look").
Actually, it turns out the interwiki links always show up as blue, even if there's no article. Hm. Sigh, the broken infrastructure of the net...
It's probably better to be explicit in any case.
