from Nancy
Aug. 15th, 2004 04:24 pmI'm now in Nancy, been here since thursday.
I came to ESSLLI to treat it as a scientific networking event, and I've been rather successful so far.
Lectures aren't a great way of learning for me, so I've been enjoying many interactive conversations instead.
Nanceiens seem to be "gentil", polite people, who keep their distance... everybody is "vous". If I remember correctly Nice was quite different. While in Holland I hardly ever use U (formal), here I hardly ever use Tu (informal).
Since I don't actually know who reads this journal, there might well be someone within hangout distance... if so, leave a comment, especially if you have some floor space for me (I have a self-inflating mattress).
I'm closer to Freiburg and Switzerland than I had realized.
