Fellow AIers, isn't "truth-maintenance system" (TMS) a presumptuous misnomer? While "belief-revision system" is too vague, I would be much happier with "consistency-maintenance system" or "contradiction-resolution system".

Hmmm..."heuristic-cohesion system" comes to mind, but I'm not sure I like "cohesion." The concept needs something suggesting "stickiness" but not too much rigidity, and no connotation of global system-integrity. "Adhesion" is a little better, but still seems lacking. And "heuristic" itself, while apt, still seems a bit too constraining with regard to application...

How about "bias-retention system"?

Heh. I like "bias-retention bias system" even better, meaning-wise, if not aesthetically.

"bias-retention system" doesn't talk about consistency, and "bias" is unfair on those who are simply ignorant (but not biased).

what do you do, btw?
