taste perception
Apr. 16th, 2011 01:20 amAccording to a test given by
wjl, I'm a supertaster. Not surprising, given my distaste for coffee, alcohol, and many vegetables.
My results:
* Thiourea: "salty/bitter"
* Sodium benzoate: "MSG-ish"
* PTC: "yuck!" It took a couple of seconds, then I made a very ugly face and requested something to remove that taste from my mouth.
Circumstantial evidence:
* I can taste coffee in my water at Nussbaum&Wu.
* I am quite sensitive to smells, particularly tobacco.
What are the main dimensions in which people vary?
Besides the above, I know some people think that cilantro tastes like soap.
