when do you only sweat when you *stop* running?

Have you ever been running for a good while (> 20 minutes), and notice that you only start sweating *after* you stop?

I noticed this yesterday with just my arms. When I held the railings, I felt my arms getting hot. This might be a reason why we move them when we run.

My explanation is that when your heart has been working in high gear, and takes a little while to get back to normal. So if you stop all of a sudden, all the extra energy that the heart was feeding to the cells is no longer being used for mechanical purposes, so it turns to heat instead (i.e. it dissipates).

Right? Wrong?

When you're running you are mildly sweating, but because of the breeze you are maintaining a cooler temperature. When you stop, you loose that breeze and your body cranks up more sweat to evaporate to make you cooler.

That makes sense. When the body stops moving, it starts to warm up the air around it so it radiates less heat into it. I imagine having body hair makes this more pronounced by slowing down the exchange of warm air immediately around the body for cooler air further out.

I agree with this at cooler temperature.

However, at warmer temperatures, by running you are increasing the effective volume of air available to take up your sweat which your body is producing.

What is really sweet is when the atmospheric conditions are perfectly such that when you stop running your sweat immediately sublimates to the gas phase, surrounding your skin with vapor. That has happened to me a few times since I've been in A'dam.
