Thank you very much for your interest in our graduate program.
You are among the top applicants to our Ph.D. program this year. Unfortunately, due to the budgetary difficulties that we currently face, we are unable to offer financial support of any kind to new students entering in Fall 2010. If we were able to do so, it is likely that you would have received such an offer. We hope that our financial situation will improve by Fall 2011.
We wish you well in your studies and future career in statistical science.
I already knew they weren't accepting new students, no shock there.

Date: 2010-02-12 03:48 pm (UTC)My husband wanted to apply for faculty jobs with the pure math department, and it sounds like they're not expecting to hire for years, potentially, because of $$. In fact, they lost two faculty members to accidents this past year, and haven't even been able to replace them.
I love the UW, and it makes me sad both for them and for you that they're having this kind of trouble.
