Yesterday, I saw a girl playing violin on the street. She was playing arrangements of popular tunes such as Yesterday, etc. Her instrument had a really good sound, and I picked up my fiddle from the hostel to see if the good sound could be attributed to the performer. Unfortunately (or fortunately), it was the instrument, which is superior to mine. If I ever want to sound really good, I'll probably have to invest US$5000 or more.

Walking towards a McDonald's I found out that she is Polish, and that she was staying at the Flying Pig as well! So we met there later, and we talked a bit. Turns out she made 70 Euro in 3 hours!! She told me of a day in St Gallen (Switzerland) when she made 400 Euro. The competition to play there is so big that you have to schedule your space a few days in advance. If they don't have room for everybody, they draw a lottery. Crazy.

Anyway, yesterday I was making plans to go to Germany today. But, upon reading UVA's (Universiteit van Amsterdam) website, I found out the OZSL conference was starting just today! So I went there this morning and saw some of the ESSLLI crowd. There were some good lectures today. Like ESSLLI, most lectures were inspiring, but too hard to follow. As one might expect, I met a couple of interesting people. I had chats about intonation & pragmatics, language & games. Very cool stuff.

Also, this Canadian chick named Kelly is following me everywhere. We slept in the same room the night we came from Paris. We managed to bargain a *** hotel room down to 20 Euro / person. The next day we ran into each other at Bob's Youth Hostel (from which I was "kicked out" by Bob himself, but that's a different story).
Yesterday, she saw me at this place, the easyInternetCafe, and today she saw me hanging with my logicians, in a cafe that's really out of the way. We already met by chance 3 times in 5 days. Do you believe in fate?

So is Kelly hot? Maybe she's stalking you.

She's fairly attractive. She's 19 and rather tall. We only met because I "picked her up", though she doesn't seem to know that.
I saw her standing waiting for our train, so I took out my fiddle and started making up a very rhythmic minor tune. She looked at me. So I asked her if she danced. She's pretty easy to talk to, and pretty trusting, so it wasn't hard.

I don't think she's stalking me. (< 10% chance).
