I'm disappointed that Matlab doesn't have basic structures like List... and somehow it took me this long to notice! (Related) I should switch to NumPy.
He doesn't really explain what he is using it for. I think people just get accustomed to language features and get lazy. For example, I was really disappointed when I worked really hard to take something the boss had written in Fortran and translated it into Matlab, and she told me that I was writing obfuscated code when I had taken quite a bit of time to optimize for Matlab.
