does anyone know how to shrink the page margins on a LaTeX-rendered document?

Using the geometry package has served me well enough in the past, but I haven't looked into it much. Fiddling with margins in LaTeX is a bitch!

that's what I found too. But it requires the geometry package (which I think means geometry.sty), which I'm unable to download.

http://www.tex.ac.uk/cgi-bin/texfaq2html?label=changemargin might be more helpful. it also links to a question about changing margins on the fly, for a temporary block of text. i've had good luck with this before.

Don't most LATeX installations have the geometry package already? Have you tried it?

Yes, I have tried it.

Oh oh, I can make it work! My attempt to prove you wrong has saved my ass!

Thanks!

FTR, this is the relevant excerpt:

\documentclass[12pt]{article}
\usepackage[left=2.5cm,top=1cm,right=2.5cm,bottom=2cm,nohead,nofoot]{geometry}
\begin{document}

Hey Gustavo: I bet you can't obey posted speed limits, increase your consumption of vitamin- and mineral-packed spinach, or obtain regular colon and prostate screenings after your 40th birthday...

More seriously, I've often found that in LaTeX, if you're having trouble downloading a package, that means it's already installed somewhere.

TeX knows better than you how big margins should be.
