bleg: tracking program execution

I want to track whether a program is being executed when I run a particular test. It doesn't leave any trace that I'm aware of.

But it seems like the OS (Windows) should keep track of this.

What's the easiest way to do this?

can't the program write to the application event log everytime it runs? i don't know enough about windows, but i know i don't like it as a development environment.
