Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] jbouwens (and indirectly / unintentionally thanks to [livejournal.com profile] pjammer), I now have GMail.

Before I perform a migration which could disorganize my whole life, though, I will probably install Pop Goes the Gmail first.

At the moment it's sucking to not control what address I can use to send messages, like I do with my email clients (Outlook, Evolution) (I regularly use 3 different optimizelife.com addresses + 1 university address). It's my spam-prevention system, goddamit! As they say in Brazil, it's better to prevent than to remedy!

Anyway, I just hope that spam collectors will stick to web bots & dictionary attacks until I can comfortably use the economic solution to spam (i.e. e-stamps). Since I didn't think twice, I might be susceptible to a dictionary attack on gmail.

Btw, I hate probabilistic spam filters.

It's hugely overrated. I mean it's just webmail you know. Nothing more. :)

Reading GMail through POP seems like it would get rid of the nice gmail features like threading of conversations and searching of the inbox. And is POP the one that downloads the mail for local use? Because that would make the gigabyte of free space pointless also.

I just wish GMail would support:

* importing my current mailboxes
* my spam prevention system (reread the thread, I've edited it)
* more to come, probably.. I still only have half an hour experience with it.

it is just webmail but it has some nice features. keyboard shortcuts, for one. though i wish that were configurable. its "threading" in conversations is interesting as well. kind of reminds me of icq, but smarter. it certainly won't replace my pop/primary email accounts but that's why i have webmail in addition to all of that.

I don't know any of Lacerda of Spanish origin (although that's probably the original origin). And apparently Google doesn't know many either...
