Not everything that gets posted in LiveJournal is a log of recent events. Many of the best posts people write are about rather timeless things, which interest people regardless of time.
That kind of document sometimes benefits from refinement, additions and updates, which sometimes must be done remotely. So Wiki (web-editable HTML) would be the ideal format.
Unfortunately, that by itself won't get you many readers.
I suggest we use a system where the author to publicizes (i.e. posts) according to his publishing (i.e. updating). The author could publicize when the first version comes, and whenever interesting things appear.
