Perhaps I should change the name, since I don't actually build models.

Before you leave a comment on this, I know that I need to give more background about autism and the box task.

This paper is about:
* cognitive modeling (a way of formalizing cognitive theories by implementing simulations of minds).
* cognitive theories of autism (in particular, why we believe the Executive Dysfunction theory (ED) )
* specifying possible mechanisms through which ED can account for the box task (the ultimate goal being a formalized theory of autism)
* why cognitive modeling should be the ultimate test of a theory.

My program is very ambitious, and I haven't been able to find anyone working towards the same goal.

I want to call myself an instrumentalist. Can anyone provide reasons why I shouldn't want to?

By the way, ordinal arithmetic (where addition and multiplication are not commutative) seems cool, though a bit of "abstract nonsense". I don't like non-computational things... I like to think of infinity as a limit.

What do instrumentalists think of set theory? Does a transfinite ordinal ever come in handy?

Do different set theories have any consequences for physicists, or any scientists at all, for that matter?

What is a formal theory?

It's one which is easily validated by checking step-by-step without using a theorem prover.
And my dream is that argumentation in all its forms (whether mathematical, scientific or philosophical) be put into this form. Of course, this is a dream I believe to be logically possible... I don't have illogical dreams. But not only that: I also believe it's feasible. But this could be my naive optimism.

Am I being greedily reductionistic?

Please criticize my view.
