I've recently had some artistic collaborations with just about the most industrious creative person I know. We're generally in the same wavelength, enjoy bouncing off ideas and have lots of fun, but he's the one who does all the real work. So far, we've only done music things, but we've been bouncing off ideas for short videos... funny, and approximately TV ad -length.

Out of curiosity, do non-Dutch speakers understand this video?

I guess that guy was trying to steal that one lady's bike, and he put it back, and started trying to steal the other one, and... the cops showed up because that second bike *was really nice?*

My guess was that the lady saw him stealing one bike, so she knew he could pick locks, so she asked him to pick the lock on "her" bike (because she'd "forgotten the key" or something). She then called the cops on him, and while he ran away she stole the bike.

so he says: "wil je die hebben?" ("would you like that one?")
which suggests the work was commissioned, without any excuses.

The background information is that bike theft + resale is a routine thing in Amsterdam. What makes this interesting is that commissioned theft isn't...

So this ad basically says "This bike is so great, even when you are a well dressed businessperson, you'll commission and then betray a bike thief, just to get it!" ?

That's... a stretch.

a marketing stretch, I mean. Like, it makes the presumed public kinda complicit.

Similar approach- "Cereal crisps so good, you'll rob an old person just to buy them!" ???

Wait was the ad for the bike itself? I thought it was for insurance or something.

yup, Batavus makes bikes. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Batavus

I agree it's a bizarre ad for a bike. At first I imagined it to be for locks, but that's even worse! Insurance would make the most sense.
