On Thursday (or earlier), my phone replaced all its sounds with a discrete raindrop sound. This has caused problems, including not picking up the phone and missing my morning alarm.

But now I fixed it. The "raindrop sound" seems to be a special "volume", below the lowest volume... now, all the original sounds seem to be back.

If you're teaching an HCI class and want to illustrate bad design, the Samsung cellphone a very rich example. (I would give a model number, but not too surprisingly, they make this hard to find out)

Other issues include:
* haphazard capitalization in text messages (UPDATE: this issue has disappeared)
* sticky Num lock, Fn
* losing your text message (or any unsaved info) when you close the phone
* an inability to answer the phone normally when it's in horizontal mode (since switching to vertical involves hanging up)
* it encourages you to create appointments at random times
* Address Book: inability to create an entry who has no phone number or email; it does not allow "gustavo@gmail": it refuses to save your entry.
* Camera and Pictures are in separate sections
* it has unremovable icons for WindowsLive and MediaPlayer, which are paid services.
* when you turn off the phone (say, because a lecture has begun), it plays a little tune (mercifully, this can be disabled)

The model number is unnecessary; all Samsungs are famously bad. In different, mutually inconsistent ways, of course.

My current phone is a Samsung, and my last one was too. Surprisingly, they are pretty indestructible. I tried to break my last one--including jumping on it when it was open, face down, and it did not break!

Regarding text messaging, my phone does not appear capable of making parentheses, thus I can not make :( or :) That is incredibly annoying! So much can be conveyed with a smiley!

What the hell? Yes, because when people are turning off their phones, they usually want to make noise and draw attention to themselves!

What I dislike about cell phones is you can't tell the time when you are talking on it! (At least not with any phone I have seen.) The screen that displays the time goes dark after a few seconds, and in order to light it up and see the time, you have to flip the top, which hangs up your call!

I think all cell phones seem to have major flaws.
