allergy to detergent

I've been having a weird pain in the skin of my hands for the past week or so... red spots my palms, very dry peeling fingertips.

I'm hoping it's an allergy... even though my blood doesn't seem to be allergic to any of the common allergens. I suspect the dish-washing detergent.

I wonder if I should see a doctor about it.

This reminds me that in 2000, I got hives all over my body for an unknown reason... and had to be on cortisone for a couple of weeks. Coincidentally or not, it was the middle of summer too.

I have a contact allergy that causes that. Most of the time I don't have it treated, but once I did. They gave me some steroid cream to put on it that you are not supposed to get on unaffected areas which is hard when the affected areas are your fingertips and the palms of your hands.

sounds maybe like eczema

I have a rash currently, which was almost all over my body... I've been taking Lidex (steroid cream) to get rid of it and it's going away slowly.

I got the red spots on my palms and dry fingers (with little slices of lines going through them, almost as if they were getting old too quickly) but I had no idea what it was. The red spots didn't last too long, but the weirdness on my fingertips stayed for almost a year (although that too eventually disappeared).

My body's pretty weird, it gets rashes on it once every couple years for a couple months and then the rest of the time it's fine. Doctors usually call it "excema" but they always say that it's a bit different than usual excema. So I don't really know what it is.

Oops, I didn't make it clear here that... the problem with the red spots and dry fingers was about 4 years ago, whereas the current rash is just a red rash on lots of my body.

Yeah, sounds like excema to me. I get it on my face in the winter and it drives me mad. It could be stress or diet related. You could go to a doctor, but they don't know a lot about skin consitions. They just prescribe hydro cortisone which is a steroid and which thins the skin and is really bad for you. Maybe the Dutch doctors are better than English ones (very likely) or you could try chinese/other herbal remedies. I had that for my face and it did clear up, don't know if it was co-incidence/ onset of warmer weather or if the herbs really worked.

Hope you get better soon,

J.
