When I worked in Boston, I kept asking my boss to work on QA. The reason being that I tend to break things in unusual ways.

* I once tied up a magician in such a way that he couldn't get himself untied. He, I even asked him "Are you sure?".
* Not long ago, I cut myself with the toaster.
* This week I crashed Linux twice (Fedora Core 1), while doing nothing special. WinXP, OTOH, seems stable as a rock.

i have managed to break things that can't be broken. like an unbreakable mixing bowl. and i spill just everything.
my mobile phone includes the instructions "do not drop" - like i do it on purpose???? i had to have it in a leather case to give it a fighting chance as i drop it several times a week. or even several times a day.

Are you sure you crashed the kernel and not just some display component like X/Gnome/KDE (hint: you can always press Alt-F7 to get out of X)? If you were doing nothing special, could it be a hardware problem? I run core-1 and core-2 on a dozen webservers and never crashed once. But XP is also very stable for 1-user systems, but I won't expect it to multitask very well under a high load.
